This summer in Idaho is getting HOT! At Rossman Law Group we love taking a dip in a pool on days like these, don’t you? Well if you have a pool or know someone that does make sure to read and/or share this post as you could save a life!

Swimming pools can become ticking time bombs if not properly maintained. At Rossman Law Group we have had cases and seen many more that involve the dangers of swimming pools. Today we want to bring attention to the dangers of your pool filter and how intense pressure can build up inside them. There are many pool filters available these days, but just because they may be newer doesn’t mean they can’t be dangerous. The most dangerous filters are in fact the older models manufactured in the 80’s and 90’s. We highly recommend that if you have one of these older filters you replace it with a newer one immediately.

The most dangerous pool filter explosions involve the entire top half of the filter completely blowing off of the bottom half sending the large bell-shaped projectile hundreds of feet in the air. They don’t always blow straight up but can blow in any direction. These large pieces of filter have been known to shred through roofs, awnings, neighbor’s property, and even human body parts resulting in serious injury and, in some cases, death. Some other exploding filters have been known to blow into hundreds of flying pieces of shrapnel, piercing anything in their way.

Please take the utmost caution in keeping your pool filter well maintained and spread the word, making sure your family and friends are also aware of the importance of proper swimming pool maintenance. Together we can make sure that we never have to hear of another casualty from an exploding pool filter again. We always recommend having fun in the sun, but if that includes using your swimming pool then make sure you do it safely.
