Sexual Harrasment

Sexual harassment can take on many forms, including unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that affects a person’s employment, unreasonably interferes with their work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment.  Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Sexual harassment can occur in a variety of circumstances.  Many employees do not know that the harasser does not have to be the opposite sex of the victim of the harassment; the harasser can be the victim's supervisor, an agent of the employer, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or even a non-employee; the victim does not have to be the person harassed, but can be anyone affected by the conduct and sexual harassment is illegal even without a showing of economic injury or wrongful discharge.
